Submissions are handled online through Open Journal Systems (OJS). Submit online via UOJM-OJS to receive up-to-date submission guidelines to prepare your manuscript.
What types of articles do you accept?
A broad range! Please note that we try to diversify the types of articles in each issue so we may be limited in how many articles of each type make it in print. Each issue has a theme, so while we accept articles on any relevant topic, articles most appropriate for each issue will be selected for print. We accept the following types of articles:
Original research articles: Basic science, Clinical research, Epidemiology
Review articles
Case reports & Elective reports
News & Commentaries on: Health policy & economics, International health, Scientific discoveries & innovations, Medical education, Medical ethics
Opinion pieces & Letters to editors
Featured interviews (Co-Editors-in-Chief must be contacted first for approval)
UOJM employs a double-blind peer review to minimize bias in reviewing submissions. Each submission is reviewed by at least 3 reviewers who evaluate the significance, scientific validity and originality. Reviewers are students and/or faculty members at the University of Ottawa, with a few from other Canadian institutions as well. The turnaround time for a review is 2 weeks.
Who can submit?
UOJM welcomes submissions from individuals from any institution in the world, so long as the piece is written in English or French and it appeals to our readership.
How Do I submit an article?
All articles are to be submitted online via Open Journal Systems. Please read the submission guidelines carefully, and complete the necessary supplementary documents (see Submission Guidelines). We employ a rolling review process, meaning that the review process starts as soon as the submission is made. Regardless of when you submit your article, you will receive feedback within 21 days.
Why submit an article to UOJM?
An opportunity to publish in a peer-reviewed journal read by your medical & scientific community
Practice writing academic manuscripts, and receive constructive feedback
Share your findings, insights, experiences and opinions with your medical society
MSPR credit for publication
Are there submission fees?
As a not-for-profit journal, there are no fees associated with article processing or submission when submitting to UOJM.
Do you publish online-only articles?
Due to increased volume of submissions and the fact that not all articles will fit within the theme of upcoming issues, certain articles will be accepted for publication online, either exclusively or for early access ahead of the print date.
What languages do you accept submissions in?
We are a bilingual publication, thus we accept submissions in either English or French. All article abstracts are translated into both languages. To reach a wider audience, articles submitted in French will be translated into English as well, with the translated version of the article available online (as of Issue 7.1)
